- Sugary drinks ban
- Fast food bans
- Proper dietary habits

If you have not completed your pro/con essay, be reminded that everything is due on Friday. Use these questions to write your essay:
- What did your polling reveal?
- How many questions did you ask?
- How many people did you poll?
- What demographics did you poll (age, sex, background, etc?)
- Did your polling back up or refute your opinion? (How?)
- How many of those that you polled were aware of the situation that you polled about?
- How do you think you can inform the public with the information that you gathered from this poll?
- Did the results from your poll sway your opinion at all?
December 3rd-7th
This week ladies and gentlemen you will take your project to the next step. For those of you a little behind you MUST turn in your essay regarding your position "For/Against" by Friday, December 14th. (Project work is 50% of your grade.)
Next you will construct a poll to see where the rest of the students in the MACS community feel about our controversial topic-The banning of sugary substances.
Goal 1: Brainstorm a topic. You can use sugary drinks; you can go with fast foods. You may even conduct one about the food served here at MACS and substitutes for such foods/drinks.
Goal 2: To create an actual poll that you will ask students here at MACS. You must have at least 5 questions for your poll.
You're encouraged to use the following sites as guides for helping you construct the polls:
Afterschool Polling
Survey Monkey
Poll Daddy
No matter how you create your poll, you MUST have a hard copy that can be printed out to use to ask students around MACS. I highly recommend you make your poll a multiple choice poll to make it easier for you.
Your poll is expected to be completed by Thursday, December 13th so that you may begin conducting the polls As Soon As Possible (ASAP.)
Depending on the class you are is the determinant in polling grade levels. The list is as follows:
1st Period will poll 9th graders.
4th Period will poll 10th graders
5th Period will poll 11th graders.
You are also encouraged to poll outside sources (friends, neighbors, family members), just remember the rules about polling (purpose or random sampling)
Good Luck
Mr. Sheridan

Write an essay that expresses your opinion on our topic (dietary habits), using the arguments developed in class. They should include a main idea, supporting points, argument that refute the opposing opinion, and a conclusion that explains the bottom line or why the issue is important.

Ok folks. I understand that there is a hurricane occuring, but if any of you wish to get a jump on the work for the week I am attaching it here. The work is simple, you will play the part of a "biographer" for both the Obama and Romney camps. I am attaching all the links that you need to do this work.
First you will need to download The "Candidate Research Team" worksheet. It is not a movable type sheet, or in other words, you will not be able to type on it , but rather will have to print it out if possible. If you can't, make a sheet of paper similar to how the sheet works and transcribe the information onto that sheet.
Candidate Profiles
After you have completed the 1st task you will then undertake assessing each candidate for
the presidency using these resources and the handouts from your teacher:
Obama
Romney
The Issues
Where do the candidates stand on the issues? Use this worksheet to highligh some of the issues that both candidates face.
The Worksheet
Where they stand:
Obama on Issues
Romney on Issues
For HW, since we will be won't have class till Thursday (Wednesday is college and career readiness day). Working online you will create campaign materials for the election that target younger voters. You can create brochures, posters, television or radio commercials, or campaign buttons. You will outline what you want the audience to see in the following manners since you are “experts” in one issue doing this research: you can create issue brochures or tri-fold displays. Alternatively, your campaign “team” could collaborate on making a campaign Web site. This can emphasize policy detail, creativity or both.

Aim: How can we use multimedia materials to get a better understanding of the process of running for president?
Do Now: Finish Up Your Project Work. If you don't finish in class you have an opportunity to complete it at home and email it to me.
Use information from the link below to summarize the main points of this article regarding running for president. You will put your main ideas into either a MS Word or Powerpoint presentation and email it to Mr. Sheridan ([email protected]). You will be graded on what you email, so make sure it is done right:
How does one run for the office of President?
HW: Complete the For/Against Organizer at the bottom of the page.
